Check out the range of our ATC activities!

We don’t call ourselves Auckland’s most active tramping club for nothing. Here’s a taste of what we get up to – and we’d love to have you join in on:

Sublime Auckland day walks

We’ve got a great programme of Wednesday and Weekend day walks to the very best locations our region has to offer – check out our day walks page for general information, and our calendar here to line up your next hike.

Awesome overnight hikes

Every month we schedule a superb overnight tramp somewhere in the upper North Island. Camping or hut-based, we head away in Big Blue on Friday night and return Sunday evening, giving two glorious days to enjoy our wonderful NI ranges and parks.

And on long weekends it’s even better, as we make the most of the extra day(s) available.

Head to our Multiday Tramp page here for more info.

Excitement in spades – our extended multiday tramps

Every year we run at least one 5-8 day North Island tramp. You’ll cross alpine passes, traverse tussock ridges, wade mountain streams, hike through stunning bush. A circuit or through trip in one of our great NI ranges – the Ruahines, Kaimanawas, Kawekas, Tararuas. See what’s lined up here.

And just in case you thought we’re anti the South Island, not a chance! Our Summer Trips programme heads to the mainland every year. We have various ‘Christmas’ trips from around 27 December of varying duration and intensity. And then in February we repeat the dosage with our (oddly named we admit) ‘Interim Trips’ to another superb SI location.

PLUS, we’ll normally have a week long low-level winter tramp making the most of the South Island’s stunning winter landscapes.

Keep an eye on our Extended Summer Tramps page here and Multiday Tramp Calendar here for our next scheduled adventures. (links)

And after that we head out on Safari …

And just to top off our summer programme, the Safari will often head away in late summer. Generally based around camping ground accommodation, these involve two weeks of mostly day walks and activities exploring the nooks and crannies of some of the most scenic regions of NZ.

Hawaii trips

We’re a sister club with the Hawaiian Trail & Mountain Club, and every few years we head up there for what has inevitably proven to be a trip of a lifetime. Our Hawaiian friends are extraordinary hosts, and their island paradise is simply breath taking. Keep an eye out for these trips, they fill up very fast!

Maybe a bit of kayaking or biking

Every now and again we’ll put together a mountain biking or kayaking trip. You need to be in like Flynn for these – places get snapped up real fast. Keep an eye on our Calendar and Wanderlust.

Club nights

Every third Thursday of the month from February through to November we get together to enjoy a talk or presentation, hear what’s happening in the Club and socialise. Casual, fun and free – come along! More information here

Track maintenance

The Club is an active participant in the Kaimai Ridgeway Trust’s fantastic efforts maintaining huts and tracks in the Kaimai Ranges. We hold regular weekend work parties clearing and maintaining some of the most scenic and enjoyable tracks in the park. The Kaimais are a gem, and seriously underrated by almost everyone – join us and you’ll see what we mean!

Conservation - saving the kokako

The haunting sounds of the kokako have returned to a block of bush deep in the heart of the King Country. All thanks to the concerted efforts over several years of our kokako conservation team. Their baiting and track clearing efforts have made a huge difference – join them and be blown away by the sound of kokako in the wild.

Our club hut

Sitting proudly in the middle of the Waitakere Ranges (and still easily accessible despite the extensive Waitakere track closures), is our club hut – our much loved Ngaro Te Kotare. Did you know it played a starring role in Hunt for the Wilderpeople, comprehensively upstaging the secondary star Sam Neill ? This is just the place for your quiet weekend away in superb Waitakere bush - details here.

Club magazine

You’ll love our monthly mag – the incomparable Wanderlust. Check out our latest editions here.
