Details: Two day trips in the Matamata area.

Saturday: Maungatautari Traverse

A traverse of Mt Maungatautari and Mt Pukeatua which makes a great day trip and a chance to visit a reserve that has been completely enclosed by a pest proof fence. It ends up at a visitors centre with a good display of wildlife things as well as eats.
Medium: Starting from end of Hicks Rd cross farmland to the edge of the bush, where the track climbs steadily through bush to the summit. Next the track traverses through an old crater, undulates for a couple of hours before arriving at the next peak Pukeatua. (It is possible to avoid this by taking an easy quad bike track to the saddle below the Pukeatua peak and then climb to the top in about 10 minutes.) From the summit there are good views. Complete the track to the visitors centre. Appox 5 hours
Easy: Use the quad bike track all the way to the visitors centre
