From the Viaduct Basin (close to the Downtown Ferry Terminal) on the Waitemata Harbour, you’ll make your way South to the Manukau Harbour and Tasman Sea. Follow the yellow markers and milestones. Some highlights along the way include:
Albert Park, the site of an old Maori village (papakainga) called Rangipuke, which once contained a defensive pa and farmland - now boasting walking paths and gardens
Auckland Domain, home to the Wintergardens and Auckland War Memorial Museum
Mount Eden volcanic cone, Auckland’s highest natural point
Cornwall Park, an oasis in the heart of Auckland city and home to One Tree Hill and a working farm
Onehunga Blockhouse located in Jellicoe Park, one of 10 small forts build in 1860 to protect Onehunga residents from perceived attacks by Maori
Finish at Onehunga Station and hop on any train heading to Britomart Walk 16km, Time 5-6 hours.
