Auckland Anniversary Weekend - Tuhua (Mayor Island)

Duration: Friday 25 January 2019 to Monday 28 January 2019 (4 days)
Details: Known for its spectacular scenery, Maori history, black obsidian from past volcanic activity and surrounding marine life.
Saturday: Boat from Tauranga to South East Bay (Opo). 2 hours. Set up camp. Afternoon walk to Tokimatea Point , Western Bay (Omapu), Honeymoon Bay (Otiora), return to track junction, via Ruawaipiro Pass up to Tutaretare (320m), return to camp. 4.5 hours.
Sunday: Around the island, up over Ruawaipiro Pass, through Te Ananui Flat, Hurihurihanga Bay (short distance off track), descend to crater floor to Lake Aroarotamahine (Green) return via the Devil's Staircase to camp. 8 hours.
Monday: Over Ruru Pass and down to explore Lake Te Paritu (Black), then head west along the crater floor and back over Ruawaipiro Pass to return to camp. 4 hours. Boat departure 2-2.30pm.

Note: There are a few wasps on Tuhua so be prepared.
Transport: Club bus   Driver: Chris Burnett
Bus Cost: $40 members, $50 non-members
Boat Cost: $120 per person return if 15 people. (or $1800 return is the full boat rate to be shared amongst the group going).
Destination Friday night: Omokoroa Kiwi Holiday Park, 165 Omokoroa Road, Omokoroa, Tauranga.
Accommodation Cost Friday night: $22 per person. Sleep on the bus.
Tuhua Camping Cost: $33 per person for two nights. Includes Landing Fee.
Trip Deposit: for Holiday Park Friday night, camping on Tuhua and boat - $60 to be paid by 10 December 2018 to secure your place on this trip. Final Payment (yet to be determined) by 20 January 2019.
