Waipoua Coastal Walkway

Duration: Friday 12 July 2019 to Sunday 14 July 2019 (3 days)
Details: Waipoua Coastal Walkway stretches 50kms from Kai Iwi Lakes in the south, across farmland, along Aranga Beach, up, over and down Maunganui Bluff to Waikara Beach, taking in the historic settlement of Kawerua, Waimamaku Beach, and on up to Hokianga South Heads. Stunnng Coastal scenery. Great views of the Tasman Sea, beaches stretching as far as you can see to the south and north, Hokianga Harbour and sand dunes to the north.
Fit: All 50kms. Saturday from Kai Iwi Lakes, across farmland, up Aranga Beach, up, over and down Maunganui Bluff to Waikara Beach, cross Waipoua River to possibly camp in Hahaonui Stream. 8 hours. Sunday continue on to remains of historic Kawerua settlement. On up to Waimamaku River. Possibly wait for the tide to drop. After crossing Waimamaku River only 8 kms to go to Hokianga South Heads. 8 hours.

Medium: Saturday from Kai Iwi Lakes , across farmland, up Aranga Beach, up, over and down Maunganui Bluff to take track besides swamp and creek to Waitapu Road end. 18kms. 5.5 - 6 hours. Sunday In Waipoua Forest - Kauri Walks Te Matua Ngahere and The Four Sisters, plus a visit to 'Tane Mahuta'. After getting dropped off at Waimamaku Road end, walk up to Hokianga South Heads on coastal track. 8kms plus kauri tracks.

Easy/Driver: Saturday drive around to Waitapu Road end (off Aranga Coast Road). Walk up to Maunganui Bluff summit to meet and have lunch with the Medium group. 3kms, 1 hour one way. Return to bus at road end. Drive to Waipoua Camp at Waipoua Forest Visitors Centre for the night. Sunday join the Medium group in Waipoua Forest - Kauri Walks Te Matua Ngahere and The Four Sisters, plus a visit to 'Tane Mahuta'. Drive on to Waimamaku Road end to drop off the Medium group. Drive around to Signal Station Road, Hokianga. Walk south on coastal track to meet the Medium and Fit groups and return to bus. 3 - 4 hours approx.

Note 1: Easy/Driver and Medium groups please have $15 cash for your Saturday night's camp at Waipoua Forest Camp.
Note 2: There are likely to be some variations to the planned walks for the Medium and Easy parties, depending on kauri management decisions - refer this link

Bus Cost: $57 members, $71 non-members.
Destination: Promenade Point Camp, Kai Iwi Lakes. Camping or sleeping on the bus $12 per person.
Total cost for Friday camping and bus: $69 Members, $83 Non-Members
Departure: Friday 7.00pm Club Garage, 31 Sandringham Road, Kingsland
