Details: This is intended to be an easy introduction to tramping for those who don’t want anything too difficult. It can be cut shorter if you want.
Easy: Visit the gannet colony - they will be busy feeding their young and it is a fantastic sight (if a bit smelly) on the rocky ledges of the west coast. Binoculars useful.
Then we head up through bush towards Oaia Rd, then backtrack into Muriwai. Take the Coast Rd until it turns towards the beach (horse boxes), continue along the road until the second track on the right into the forest. Follow this until Pulpit Rock Rd, follow towards the beach. Make your way onto the beach. A good walk along the wild west coast beach brings us to the car park and maybe ice creams! Time - 3 hours.
