Details: This walk follows the Waikato River for some 18km, with the opportunity to retreat to the bus after 9km for those who want. It is a very scenic but basic part of the Te Araroa trail.
Medium: Starting near the end of Dragway Rd, follow stock bank beside the Waikato River. Kahikatea, cabbage trees and puketea alongside the trail give a hint of the original riverside vegetation. The bus will wait on Churchill East Rd for those who have had enough after 9 or 10 km but for those with determination follow south of the Pumphouse, past Tarahanga island used in former times as a Maori sentry post. Continue onto Rangiriri with the possibility to pick up the bus on East Rd. Time 5 - 6 hours
