We have postponed the NTK 90th celebrations until later in the year - so there is no trip or other event scheduled on March 17

ATC members officially opened their new hut, Ngaro Te Kotare, in the Waitakeres on March 17, 1929 as a wild place to get away to in what was then a quite remote area. The remoteness diminished significantly over time, leading to a second hut – Te Hapua – in the Hunuas, and then after the war, to Memorial Hut at Mt Ruapehu.

Over recent years there has been limited use of NTK by members, but until the Waitakeres Park closure, it was frequently used by youth groups and tramping clubs from out of town keen to experience the many local Waitakeres tracks.

Help celebrate NTK’s birthday!

The format of the day is arrival at the driveway entrance on Anawhata Road from 10.30 onwards for a shared birthday lunch around midday, with plenty of time before and after the lunch to sit and chat and explore our own little patch of the Waitakere bush.

A flexible end time, perhaps around 3pm.
