Details: This is a two day event staying overnight at Opal Springs Holiday Park, near Matamata, with walking options to suit everyone. On Saturday explore some superb southern Kaimai tracks that we seldom get to, and then on Sunday we get an earlier start than usual for the classic Kaimai trip to the top and beyond of Wairere Falls.
Saturday:
Long: Starting at the Kaimai Summit on SH29 we take the North South Track to Hurunui Hut (2.5 hrs), then continue north to the Leyland O’Brien historic tramline track, then follow the Ngamuwahine Track to the road end. Total time 6 hours. If the hut departure would be after 1pm, return instead via the North Henderson Tramline.
Start time for the walk is 10.30am.
Medium: From the start of the North Henderson Tramline track on the Old Kaimai Rd walk up to the North South Track, turn south on the North South Track, then east on the West Henderson Tramline Track to the road, and then along the road back to the bus Time 4 hours.
Start time for the walk is 10.45am.

HOT Pools: Opal Springs Hot Pools are open until 9pm
Dinner: A range of dinner options in Matamata
Sunday:
Long: From the end of Goodwin Rd, walk up the Wairere Falls Track to the top of the Falls, then join the North South Track heading south to the Te Tuhi Track and along that track down to the Te Tuhi road end. Time 6 hours.
Medium: Climb to the top of the Falls, and then follow the North South Track northwards to a beautiful hidden waterfall with swimming at its base. Return to the bus the same way. Time 5-6 hours
Easy: Climb to the top of the Falls only, returning the same way. Time 4 hours.    Start Time: Start time for all walks is 8.30am.

Return: By 6 pm Sunday, assuming no major traffic problems.
Cost: Bus - $35 members, $40 non-members. Pay on the bus.
