There are 7 great benefits to belonging ATC !.

.... not just where you’ll go and the skills you’ll learn, but financial benefits too. And all for a dirt cheap annual fee!”

1. You’ll discover amazing places

Some you never knew existed. And many you’d never be able get to on your own.

You can choose from a huge variety of trips – day walks, overnight tramps, weekenders, extended North and South Island tramps, and more

And we cater to your fitness level – our tramps are graded from ‘easy’ through to ‘fit’ or ‘long’ (aka ‘fast and furious’)

Plus, all our trips:
- are impeccably organised – transport arranged, published trip outlines, experienced leaders, contingency plans

- have a focus on safety – trip briefings, a few common sense rules, experienced leaders

- are cheap as chips!

2. You’ll get fitter

There’s nothing quite like getting out in nature and moving the body. Why would anyone want to go to a gym!

Our walks and tramps will work wonders for your fitness – and your soul.

3. You’ll meet like-minded people

Spend a few hours or days tramping with someone and you might just end up friends for life.

Many of our members are.

4. You can learn from others

There’s massive outdoor experience in our Club. You’ll likely pick up some new outdoor skills, and get the gen on great gear options, food choices, etc.

And possibly most importantly, learn who’s a raucous snorer and who isn’t …

5. A chance to socialise

Our regular club nights are a casual, relaxed setting for meeting and socialising with other club members.

6. You’ll be helping protect our wild places

When you join ATC you also automatically join FMC (Federated Mountain Clubs), NZ’s leading outdoors advocacy group. FMC works tirelessly to protect the backcountry and does an extraordinary job – almost entirely by volunteers, and on a shoestring budget. You’ll be helping fund their crucial work.

7. You can save money!

ATC and FMC membership provides significant discounts for the DOC annual backcountry hut pass and with several major outdoor equipment retailers and service providers. Like these:
