A Year on Campbell Island
Alpine Sports Club warmly invites ATC members to its 5 November club evening.
In 1991 Linda Danen applied for the position of meteorology technician on Campbell Island, New Zealand’s only permanently inhabited sub-antarctic island.
Living in the company of just four others in hostel type accommodation, on a cold wind swept island for twelve months, with no other company or visitors to talk to, might seem daunting to many. Come along and hear Linda’s story and view her pictures of what life is like on this southern outpost.
Linda is the current President of the Ruapehu Mountain Clubs Association and following her Campbell Island presentation she will answer any questions on “What’s happening at Whakapapa”.
Venue: St Marks Hall, cnr Remuera & St Marks Roads, 7.30 pm start.
