The ATC year was off to a great start with two weeks of successful tramping in the Arthurs Pass area – grateful thanks to Hughie for cooperating, producing very acceptable weather for the whole fortnight.

It was great to see all the trip members working well together to ensure everyone had a great time and managing well for the inevitable unexpected happenings.

Especial thanks are in order to the Chch Tramping Club for the use of their hut in Arthurs Pass Village, to the Canterbury Mountaineering Club for maintaining huts we used in some superb alpine locations, and for the Permolat Group / Remote Huts for preserving the Otehake Hut and ensuring the Otehake Valley was navigable for us. All great example of people getting out there and maintaining our backcountry facilities for all of us to enjoy.

This year we have a number of opportunities on the table for people to do their bit for the club – David will be retiring as secretary because he intends to move out of the city, Andrew needs a break from organising multiday tramps, we are always on the lookout for new bus drivers, and leading trips is a very enjoyable activity that we need to encourage more of you to take on. Not to mention the hunt for a new president.

Our multiday tramps are continuing to be very popular – please read the separate news article "Multiday Tramp Participants"
