A few years ago the Mountain Safety Council provided a good range of outdoor training courses. They unfortunately stopped when funding was cut, but the good news is that now a number of the volunteer trainers have proceeded along a rocky path to enable them to be certified to offer courses to outdoor enthusiasts again.

Their organisation is called Outdoor Training NZ, and you can find out information about their upcoming Auckland courses on their website - https://www.outdoortraining.nz

At this point they are offering River Safety, Basic Navigation and Compass Training, and introductory Bushcraft and Survival courses.

The course fees are very modest, and as an extra incentive, we are offering a 50% subsidy to any ATC members who attend one of their courses. Just let our treasurer know before you sign up, and then once you have paid the full amount, send through a copy of the receipt, and the bank account for the ATC 50% payment.

OTNZ don’t currently offer an Outdoor First Aid Course, but the 2 day course offered by First Training is reported to be very good, and our subsidy will likewise apply for that course if you are a club member taking regular part in our tramping trips. Refer their website - https://www.first-training.co.nz/ The subsidy for this course requires prior approval, but this should normally happen with a quick email exchange.
