Travelling the Silk Road – a month in Central Asia

Dennis Brown will give us a taste of his recent trip through four of the ‘Stans - Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan.

This is Silk Road territory with its extraordinary Islamic architecture, the fabled city of Samarkand, minarets and madrassahs, colourful national dress, and lively street festivals.

Off the beaten track there’s the endless Kazakh steppe, superb national parks with stunning lakes and mountains, yurts, more than a few camels and (naturally) a drop or two of vodka.

Plus the surreal city of Ashgabat, and camping at a gas crater that’s been burning for a mere 47 years.

These places will knock your socks off – and you’ll learn why there’s no better time to go there than now.
