The best way for you to acquire essential expereince and skills for tramping in New Zealand is to join trips run by a tramping club such as the Auckland Tramping Club. On a club triup you will learn from people who have been tramping for a long time, and they have a huge range of expereinces that you cannot acquire online or by reading a book.
The New Zealand mountains and forests are a great place to be on a fine day if you are fit and well equipped - but when the weather turns bad - as it can at very short notice, any time of the year, then the combined tramping experience and skills of your party will be put to a challenging test. Will you pass the test and survive ?
The Mountain Safety Council has created a number of resources to assist you with planning your own trip, so as to ensure that your next outdoor adventure is an enmjoyable one - under all conditions.
