Weekend - Friday 7 December 2018 to Sunday 9 December 2018 (3 days)

Simon had us down the highway in good time Friday night, dawning fine Saturday morning as we were into Kauaeranga gorge stream-bashing.
Our party had been limited to 3 as Pinnacles Hut and campsites were fully booked months in advance.
A steady 5 hour day with the usual unplanned swims but grateful for largely dry rock and water levels being lower than usual. Dennis and I camped by the restored dam while Jim braved the crowds and cellphones of the hut!
Sunday morning had us in mist as we shot up to the Pinnacles and the turn off for 3 hours of bush-crashing towards Scott Stream.
We were wary of being bluffed out and steep drop-offs but all went well as we came across some impressive Kauri specimens.
The mist had given way to a stunning cloudless 26 degree day. Some wonderful scenery as we worked our way down for 5 hours, coming across a couple of rock climbers who had set up camp.
We finally waded chest deep towards the road. Looking up there was Simon shooting past - perfect timing!
A really great off-track weekend. Thanks to Jim and Dennis for the good teamwork and Simon for the welcome pickup.
