This weekend we will be staying very close to Coromandel Town and enjoying a variety of day walks in the area, taking expert guidance from our local club members Geoff Fischer and Grace Sorensen.

This is the current plan, with some possible variations nearer the time, taking account of weather etc, especially when we would appreciate the high viewpoints!

Saturday Matarangi wetlands and bluff 2.5-3 hours, Wainuiototo Bay / New Chums Beach 30 mins each way plus lunch / swim, and then the Kaipawa Trig Track from Whangapoua Road through to the Tokatea lookout TBC. Then return to Coromandel Town via one of two alternate routes – double back to the trig and go down the Success Track or continue directly down the Kennedy Bay Road. 3-4 hours dependent on walk option.

Total walk time 6-7 hours, with options

NOTE: Some tracks will be a bit slippery if wet, so bring walking pole(s) and sturdy footwear

Sunday Farm walk on the Te Kouma peninsula - excellent views out across the sea 4 hours. Then Long Bay Kauri Loop track, then walk to Tucks Bay. Bus transfer to start of Harray Track which is then walked through to the main road north of Coromandel Town. Bus returns us to the campground

Monday Walks fom the 309 Road. Motutere/Castle Rock (optional - a steep climb). Waiau Falls (lunch / swim)  and then Kauri Grove and Waiau Summit Track 3 hours

Other Activities: Coromandel town is an interesting spot to explore by foot, and if you have not been on the Driving Creek Railway to the Eyefull Tower, then that is worth a visit too.

Accommodation: We will be staying at the Shelly Beach Top 10 Holiday Park https://www.shellybeachcoromandel.co.nz/ phone 07 866 8988. For the 3 nights, we have booked the bus for 6 people and two Lodge cabins for 4 people each (one for men, one for women).
