From the Filter Station off Scenic Drive, hike Exhibition Drive to historic Mackies Rest. From here drop down to Pipeline Rd and follow the pipeline to the bottom of Slip Track. Climb up the track to reach the lookout over Nihotapu Reservoir and the Manukau. Lunch here or outside the Visitors centre (which may or may not have been re-opened). Continue along to and then down Beveridge Track back to Mackies Rest, then back along Exhibition Drive to the cars.
