Only ATC members can book a trip up to 3 weeks before a trip commences. After that time, non-member bookings may be accepted.

Some classic Kaimanawa trips for all your pre-Christmas hill fitness and river valley relaxation needs. Note the earlier departure time - 1.00pm Friday.
Easy/Medium
Saturday from the Waikoko campsite follow road to the Umukarikari Track trailhead then over Sharp Cone and south to Urchin. After 5 km descend steeply to the Waipakihi River and camp. 7hrs.
Sunday climb back up the steep track and continue on to Urchin, then downhill to the bus at the Urchin Campsite, 4-5 hrs.

Notes: Maps: NZTopo50 BH35 Turangi & BH36 Motutere. Tents must be carried for all parties except Medium 1 (where they’re nonetheless recommended given the year-round popularity of Waipakihi Hut on a Saturday night). Full storm gear essential. Waipakihi is a standard hut (1 hut ticket or annual backcountry hut pass).
