Only ATC members can book a trip up to 3 weeks before a trip commences. After that time, non-member bookings may be accepted.

Some classic Kaimanawa trips for all your pre-Christmas hill fitness and river valley relaxation needs. Note the earlier departure time - 1.00pm Friday.
Fit
Saturday from Urchin Campsite take the road & Urchin Track, drop to Waipakihi River, 3km upriver at Thunderbolt Creek ascend ridge to Te Hiwiokaituri Ridge, traverse ridge to pick up Waipakihi Middle Ridge route to camp by the Waipakihi River, 9+ hrs.
Sunday return along Umukarikari Track to road end, 6hrs.

Notes: Maps: NZTopo50 BH35 Turangi & BH36 Motutere. Tents must be carried for all parties except Medium 1 (where they’re nonetheless recommended given the year-round popularity of Waipakihi Hut on a Saturday night). Full storm gear essential. Waipakihi is a standard hut (1 hut ticket or annual backcountry hut pass).
