Superb Tramping – and so much more!

We don’t call ourselves Auckland’s most active tramping club for nothing. But there's way more to us than just tramping!

Here’s a taste of the range of our activities – that we’d love to have you join in on.

Our extensive tramping programme

You'd be hard pressed to find a week where we didn't have at least one tramp on the go!

We have midweek and weekend day walks, monthly overnight and weekend tramps, and a range of multiday tramps, including a comprehensive summer tramping programme in the South Island and various winter tramps.

And for a more leisurely format we have our annual South Island safari.

Check out the pages under the Tramping Info menu for details, and use the calendars under the Programme tab to find a tramp that suits you.

Occasionally a bike trip

Every now and again we’ll put together a mountain biking trip. You need to be in like Flynn for these – places get snapped up real fast.

Overseas trips

We’re a sister club with the Hawaiian Trail & Mountain Club, and every few years we head up to Hawaii for what has inevitably proven to be a trip of a lifetime.

Our Hawaiian friends are extraordinary hosts, and their island paradise is simply breathtaking. Keep an eye out for these trips, they fill up very fast!

We've also been regular visitors to Nepal in recent years. Trips are normally 3-4 week trekking expeditions with porters and experienced guides.

Keep an eye on our monthly magazine Wanderlust and our Latest News page for early notice of these trips.

Club nights

Every third Wednesday of the month from February through to November we get together to enjoy a talk or presentation, hear what’s happening in the Club and socialise. Casual, fun and free – come along!

Track maintenance

The Club is an active participant in the Kaimai Ridgeway Trust’s fantastic efforts maintaining huts and tracks in the Kaimai Ranges. We hold regular weekend work parties clearing and maintaining some of the most scenic and enjoyable tracks in the park.

The Kaimai Ranges are a gem, and seriously underrated by almost everyone – join us and you’ll see what we mean!

Conservation - saving the kokako

The haunting sounds of the kokako have returned to a block of bush deep in the heart of the King Country.

All thanks to the concerted efforts over several years of our kokako conservation team. Their baiting and bait line maintenance efforts have made a huge difference – join them and be blown away by the sound of kokako in the wild.

Our club hut

Sitting proudly in the middle of the Waitakere Ranges (and still easily accessible despite the extensive Waitakere track closures), is our much loved Club hut – Ngaro Te Kotare.

Did you know it played a starring role in Hunt for the Wilderpeople, comprehensively upstaging the secondary star Sam Neill?

It's available for booking by Club members and the public alike – at very reasonable rates. It could be just the place for your quiet weekend away surrounded by superb Waitakere bush ...

Club magazine

You’ll love our monthly mag – the incomparable Wanderlust. It features our latest news, upcoming tramps, reports on our latest trips and activities (with plenty of great photos), and more. Check out our latest edition.
